A 21-year-old lady who was left heavily disfigured in a failed suicide attempt has become the youngest person in the United States to receive a face transplant. Katie Stubblefield says she does not remember much about the day in March 2014.
The then-18-year-old had just discovered that her boyfriend had been texting another girl, and also recently had surgery for gastrointestinal problems, according to National Geographic, which chronicles Katie’s story in its latest edition.
Ms. Stubblefield’s older sibling, Robert, was the one who found her shot, drenched in blood. “Her face is gone,” he recalled thinking at the time.
