Serena Williams 36, is unarguably one of the greatest tennis players in the world, with 39 major titles including 23 in singles, 14 in women's doubles and two in mixed doubles, she has a total of 23 Grand Slam titles which makes her the tennis player with the highest Grand Slam wins. She was the highest paid female athlete in 2016 and was the only woman to be in the Forbes list of 100 richest athletes. Serena is no doubt a hero, having conquered and brought down a lot of prejudices associated with women in sports. She has a lot of achievements in her career and personal life. She is not just a force to reckon with in sports, but her life is a source of inspiration to a lot of women. She has constantly faced setbacks due to racism and sexism but she continues to fight ahead to win. Serena is no doubt a great woman, but even the greatest of us have suffered injustice and discrimination in one way or the other. Serena, sadly is no different, from the mind-blowing pay gap based on gender to derogatory statements. Here are few ways SERENA has suffered from sexism.

During her win in the 2015 French Open, she was openly compared to an animal, called manly, unattractive and frightening. as if it wasn't enough after her Australian Open win, someone apparently “joked” that the suburb Manly in Sydney was named after her. It's not news that Serena suffers derogatory comments about her looks with some calling her too manly, comparing her to an animal, comments about her body and many more. It's like people do not see her achievements and instead proceed to make misogynistic hate comments about things she has no control of. But even after this, Serena continues to rise unbaffled.
