He was a stripper in “magic mike” but, he really was a stripper and the movie was made based on his experiences as a stripper. As a child, he dealt with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and dyslexia, which affected his ability to do well in school. He played football, soccer, track, baseball, and performing martial arts. He dropped out of college; Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia which he attended on football scholarship.

He started working odd jobs but left his job as a roofer to become a stripper in a local nightclub under the name “Chan Crawford”. A video of him dancing under the false name was sold to US weekly. He has openly spoken about his stripper life and he said he is "not ashamed," nor does he "regret one thing." He was named people's choice sexiest man alive in November 2012. He has two production houses, 33andOut Productions and Iron Horse Entertainment.Their first production was the documentary “Earth Made of Glass”. In 2009, Tatum married Jenna Dewan. They have a daughter-Everly together. The couple separated April 2018 but they remain friends.
