Ferrera developed an interest in acting at a very young age, the Hollywood stage and lights did not diminish her desire to study and go to college, after her film debut in the comedy-drama ‘Real women have curves’ in 2002, she went ahead to pursue a degree at the University of Southern California. When ‘Ugly Betty’ came into view she had to go on a long leave of absence from school, which paid off pretty well, after grabbing couple of awards such as Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award, she finally went back to college and obtained a BA in International Relations in 2012, she finally did it even though it took her 10 years. “It’s finally happening! Took me 10 years, but it feels great,” she tweeted at the time.
