Ranked! The 20 Best Acting Performances on Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a fantasy and serial drama known for its immense display of violence, shocking deaths, nudity, and sexual violence. Also widely acclaimed for its dramatic presentation, the David Benioff and D.B Weiss creation has been nominated many times for awards. However, most of the series’ nominations are for behind-the-scenes work such as directing and writing. The actors on the show are not usually given so much recognition. We do think they (the actors) deserve most of the accolades as it is no small feat to put up such convincing performance.

To appreciate such skill and hard work, we compiled a list of the best performances pulled by actors in the series. It’s pretty much a list of the 20 best actors in the series. In ascending order, we have:

20. Mark Addy

Robert Baratheon

Robert Baratheon

Mark played the role of Robert Baratheon; whose time on the series was very short. However, Addy played his part so memorably. Robert Baratheon was more like a useless king who neglected his duties and spent his time drinking and sleeping around. He also had anger issues. So, when he died in episode 7 of the first season, it really should have been a pleasurable riddance. However, the drunk king was so fun, we really missed him when he left. Addy had played the character so well; we didn’t want him gone.

Our favorite King Robert scene is in season 1, episode 5 where the king is in his palace with his squire, Lance Lannister who is wearing him an armor while the king is talking to Ned. Ned says the king is too fat for his armor and the latter humorously demands for a breastplate stretcher. A breastplate stretcher doesn’t even exist!

19. Clive Russell

Brynden Tully

Brynden Tully

Russell’s character is Brynden Tully. Also known as the Blackfish, Tully is Catelyn Stark’s attitudinal uncle who is loyal to his family and house; albeit, more loyal to himself. Although Brynden’s screen time is really short, Clive Russell makes sure to bring the best out of the character.

The Blackfish ’s best line is where he says,

‘as long as I’m standing; the war is not over. This is my home. I was born in this castle and I’m ready to die in it. So, you can either attack or try to starve us out. We have enough provisions for two years. Do you have two years, Kingslayer???’

What a show of bravery!
