What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘celebrity?’ You probably think about some guy who’s always on the TV, who’s rich and gets a lot of attention and who is from an entirely different world from yours. Regardless of your definition of a celebrity, celebs are known to entertain their audience and make them forget their woes.
For several years, celebrities have shown an interest in politics. These stars find it very easy to get people to hear their voices, of course, because they are already in the spotlight. From what we’ve seen, some believe that celebrities shouldn’t dabble into politics but stick to their leading role which is to entertain people. However, some of these celebrities have done pretty well since they grabbed the pad to play the political game. Let’s take this journey together.
Kerry Washington debuted as an actress in the mid 90’s with a role on an ABC telefilm titled ‘Magical Make-Over.’ The actress continued to star in several other TV shows and films till she took up some other ventures which including politics.
On the silver screen, we’ve seen Kerry perform excellently with political roles. If you are a fan of ABC’s ‘Scandal,’ you can relate to this. In reality, the staunch activist devotes her time for causes such as campaigns against violence in women and children most especially, awareness and funding of cancer-related programs. In the last election, Kerry also endorsed Hillary Clinton and appeared once during the campaigns alongside some other political-driven celebs like her.
The 41-year-old actress is a member of the Creative Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy group which is made up of the American entertainment industry. The Creative Coalition explores issues that are pressing at the national discourse.
