In his recent interview, Matthew McConaughey said that he auditioned for the role of Jack Dawson in Titanic.
As it became known, the tragic finale of the movie was inevitable but the cast could have been different. The 49-year-old actor began to discuss his role in the new film White Boy Rick, however, after that he told such an interesting detail from his acting career. He said that he had not only auditioned for the role, he had also gone quite far and was playing some of the scenes with Kate Winslet.
I went and auditioned for that. I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet. Had a good audition. Walked away from there pretty confident that I had it. I didn't get it. I never got offered that.
Acting fate smiled DiCaprio, and he became famous throughout the world thanks to this film. As for Matthew, he beat Leo several times in his career. For example, in 2014, when both actors were nominated for Oscar for the best male role, it was Matthew who received the award. DiCaprio had his Oscar only two years later.
We want to remind, this is not the first time when the news about McConaughey and Titanic appeared. Kate Winslet told this in an interview with Stephen Colbert in 2017.
I auditioned with Matthew, isn’t that weird? Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic. It just wouldn’t have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing.
It is really strange to imagine Matthew in the role of Jack Dawson. Would an actor cope with this role? We do not doubt. Would we have loved this film so much if Leonardo DiCaprio was not in it? Who knows.
In addition to Matthew McConaughey, film producers had an idea to try so famous in late 90s Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt for the role of Jack Dawson, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Claire Deins whose careers were at the peak of success at that time for Rose.
According to rumors, Kate had to literally fight for her place in the film - she herself denies it, confirming only the story that after auditions she sent the director James Cameron a rose as a gift, hinting that she and nobody else deserves the role of Rose.
