It is officially a new year, and we can’t help but go down the memory lane to how some of your favorite celebrities from the '90s used to be when they were much younger, especially in their teenage years.
After their big break in a blockbuster movie or hit TV show, they immediately became such a sensation through the decade, gracing magazine pages and constantly on our screens. Looking at them then and now, we definitely see all the changes and signs of growth.
Whether it is a change in body size, or signature hair color or growing a mustache, here are celebrities who reigned in the '90s and how they look now.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
The popular '90s teenage actress Jennifer Love Hewitt sure had a very busy run during the '90s as she frequented in teenage movies with her slender look. Some of these movies include I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Can Hardly Wait.
Decades later she hasn’t left her acting career, but obviously not in teenage movies but more in TV shows, such as the series Criminal Minds. She also has two kids now and is married to her co-actor – Brian Hallisay.
Too many times, when the name of the actor Ryan Phillippe comes up, it is usually tied to the actress, Reese Witherspoon, as their relationship used to be the talk of the town. They even made it to the altar and had two children.
Well, relationship aside, we remember the sweet looking Ryan from back in the day, also in the movie Cruel Intentions. Now the mustache and beard are there, and he is definitely more of a man.
Is this '90s actress Julia Stiles giving us vampire vibes? As we are finding it pretty hard to spot the difference. It seems like she hasn’t aged at all, decades on — the same smile, pretty much the same height and same size.
Well, the hair is different, as the blonde look is giving her the more matured look. We remember her from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, and the dance film Save The Last Dance. She’s still a great actress and has a daughter.
The actress Jessica Biel has been such a star from decades back till date. Despite being married to Justin Timberlake, the music star, and having a son with him, she has maintained her figure.
She was Mary in the 90s movie 7th Heaven. But her prime years in Hollywood weren’t really in her teenage years. It was much later when she became such a sensation on our screens in different movies. She also was in the series titled The Sinner.
Okay, let's take a break from the movie scenes, and for some moment focus on the modeling industry. Which of the '90s star can be mentioned if not the supermodel Tyra Banks? The runway figure is still intact decades on, but we can tell that there are many changes.
Especially with the makeup. The big hair is still there though, and she still is such a sensation now as then. Also, the one time Victoria’s Secret angel is now the producer of a modeling show and a part-time actress.
Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen
It is no news that the Olsen twins – Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were everyone’s favorite in the '90s, especially with a role in the movie Full House. After which they had their own movies and shows.
It was hard to ignore them through the decade, as they didn’t just become popular but earned a fortune from their involvement in the entertainment industry. Now, they have obviously grown and more focused on the fashion industry.
When you think of some of the people that made us laugh in the '90s, the comedian Kenan Thompson would definitely come to mind especially for the Nickelodeon show All That and Kenan and Kel.
His plump stature back then was enough to make his scenes and appearances funny. Now, he is more trimmed and has a cleaner haircut . Still, in the comedy line, he now hosts the TV show Saturday Night Live, and also hasn’t left the movie scenes.
The actress, Keri Russell has indeed come a long way in the industry. She started with such popular movies as Honey, I Blew Up The Kid, and then Boy Meets World. We pretty much knew Keri for her short curly hair.
Now, although, she might have maintained her profession as an actress and takes up more roles in movies and TV shown, especially in The Americans, she has let the hair grow, and definitely ditched the curls.
James Van Der Beek
The '90s actor, James Van Der Beek has been very active and consistent in Hollywood from decades back, and he has starred in popular movies and shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Varsity Blues, How I Met Your Mother, One Tree Hill, Don’t Trust The B- In The Apartment 23, CSI: Cyber, and a host of others.
One thing that has not changed is his hot bod. He used to be such a sight on our screen, and still is, but with a dash of mustache now.
The star Selma Blair might have been an unforgettable face in the movies Cruel Intentions, Can Hardly Wait, Scream 2, Legally Blonde, especially with her dark shoulder-length hair. Well now, Selma looks a bit fairer than her usual skin color and has become blonde.
You must have seen her in more recent movies and series such as American Crime Story, Heathers, Anger Management, and others. Sadly, she was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Perhaps it would not be an exaggeration to say that Winona Ryder was the face of the 1990s or certainly the face of Hollywood. After the films Beetlejuice and Heathers, a fragile beauty with a short haircut and huge eyes smiled from posters in almost every American home if there were children in it.
Winona Ryder had everything: money, fame, interesting projects and loud romances. And the passion for kleptomania, which, as it is believed, destroyed her career.
20 years ago, probably, there was not a single teenager who did not know Alicia Silverstone. Alicia starred in three Aerosmith videos: Cryin ’, Crazy and Amazing - which became incredibly successful.
Nothing foreshadowed oblivion, but Silverstone suddenly became seriously attracted to yoga and meditation, finding peace and happiness inside herself. Red carpets and secular parties began to annoy her. Now, she is a vegetarian. She lives with her husband in an eco-house.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar - the cult girl of the second half of the ‘90s, the role of Buffy Summers - the vampire slayer brought the actress to the top of her fame. Unfortunately, for Sarah Michelle Gellar, this TV show has remained the peak of her career.
Of course, there she was seen in Cruel Intentions, in which the actress has dark hair and played not the best role. But after this film, only her partner, Reese Witherspoon, became incredibly popular.
The peak of Neve Campbell's popularity was in 1996 – at that moment the thriller Scream came out. Many reviewers praised the work of the actress, noting the convincing maturing of her character.
In the 2000s, Campbell had no significant roles, except the one. In 2011 she returned to the role of Sydney in the fourth part of Scream. She has not become a popular actress.
She is another star of the series, or rather one of the most beloved children's TV series in the 90s Charmed Alyssa Milano. Cheerful, kind and bright Phoebe won the hearts of millions of teenagers.
Now, Alyssa is more often acting in advertising. The actress has created a collection of clothes for the brand Touch. Together with her husband, a sports agent, she is raising a son and a daughter.
