Weddings are an exciting affair, filled with love, anxiety, smiles, cakes, drinks, and a heavy romantic glamor. If you think average people spend a lot on their wedding ceremony, you can imagine how celebrities make it rain with money and lavishness on their wedding day.

Sadly, an expensive wedding doesn’t always guarantee that the couple will have love everlasting. Here are 15 expensive weddings that ended in divorce, from the most expensive to the least.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana Wedding Was Worth $110 million

The wedding between the royal couple is estimated to have cost $110 million, adjusted for inflation. The wedding took place on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. In 1992, the couple announced their separation.

The divorce became final in 1996. On August 31, 1997, the entire royal family were shattered when the news of Princess Diana’s accident hit the public. She did not survive from the ghastly accident.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Wedding Was Worth $10 million

On May 2011, Humphries had proposed marriage with a $2 million ring to Kim Kardashian, and she accepted. In front of 450 guests, the duo got married in August 2011, spending over $10 million.

They split just 72 days after tying the knot. Kim officially filed for divorce three months after their marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.

Liza Minnelli and David Gest Wedding Was Worth $3.5 million

The 2002 star-studded wedding had Michael Jackson as best man, Tony Bennett with a 60-piece orchestra, and 500 guests. Nevertheless, the extravagant wedding didn’t work out.

Their divorce was a messy affair as both of them aired their dirty laundry for the world to hear. There were assault allegations to Gest accusing Minnelli of exposing him to herpes.

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills Wedding Was Worth $3 million

In 2002, the couple became married on the grounds of an Irish castle. McCartney and Mills shared one child, Beatrice throughout their marriage.

Unfortunately, in 2008, McCartney and Mills split. McCartney referred to the marriage as the mistake of the decade. Mills, on the other hand, walked away with a $30 million settlement.

Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar Wedding Was Worth $2.5 million

The duo had two wedding ceremonies in 2007. One wedding took place in an English castle, the other in Nayar’s hometown in India. Despite the $2.5 million spent, the marriage hit the rocks in 2010.

Hurley was caught sharing a smooch with Australian cricketer Shane Warne at a public cricket match in London. Finally, Hurley and Nayar got divorced in 2011.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Wedding Was Worth $3 million

Holmes and Cruise got married in an Italian castle in 2006. After nearly six years of marriage, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise. Cruise later admitted in a court deposition that one of the reasons Holmes left the wedding was because she wanted to protect their daughter from Scientology.

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman Wedding Was Worth $2 million

With an $80,000 wedding gown, a guest list of 150 and $2 million, the couple got married in California’s Napa Valley. The couple shared one child but didn’t last very long. Aguilera and Bratman divorced in 2011. Aguilera opened up in an interview stating that they had grown apart.

Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky Wedding Was Worth $1.5 million

The British actress and beauty Elizabeth Taylor was married many times. Eight times to be precise. She tied the knot with Larry Fortensky in October 1991 at Michael Jackson’s famous Neverland Ranch. While many thought Taylor’s eighth wedding would be the one that stuck, Fortensky couldn’t handle the limelight that followed Taylor.

Eddie Murphy and Nicole Mitchell Wedding Was Worth $1.5 million

With a $25,000 cake and 500 guests, the couple spent a whopping $1.5 million on the soirée, that was held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in 1993. Mitchell filed for divorce in 2005 on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. It became final in 2006.

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren Wedding Was Worth $1.5 million

On October 5, 2004, the duo got married in Barbados at the Sandy Lane Resort. Their union had two children. The couple’s marriage began to unravel with claims that Tiger had cheated on Elin publicly. Their divorce became final in 2010. Elin received a $750 million settlement with the separation.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie Wedding Was Worth $1.5 million

In a Scottish castle, in December 2000, Madonna and Guy Ritchie had an intimate and top secret $1.5 million wedding.

However, seven years after the marriage, they got divorced. Madonna later opened up about the split, claiming that she didn’t feel creatively supported by Ritchie throughout the years she was married to him.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom Wedding Was Worth $1 million

In September 2009, these two married just one month after dating. The $1 million wedding aired on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, where Khloe rocked a Vera Wang dress. They separated and eventually divorced in 2015 because Odom publicly battled with drug use and allegedly cheated on Khloe.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Wedding Was Worth $1 million

Tori Spelling and Charlie Shahnaian Wedding Was Worth $1 million

The million-dollar black-tie extravaganza, had a champagne fountain, 350 guests and was catered by the one and only Wolfgang Puck. While filming a movie, Tori cheated on Charlie with Dean McDermott. And just 15 months after their extravagant wedding, the duo divorced in 2006. Tori is now married to McDermott, and they have five children.

Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola Wedding Was Worth $500,000

Carey donned a puffy-sleeved, Vera Wang dress estimated to cost $25,000, topped with a 10-foot veil, for her wedding to big-time music executive Tommy Mottola.

After divorcing in 1997, Carey publicly claimed that Mottola was extremely controlling. Mottola, on the other hand, claims Carey’s accusations were absurd and untrue.
