Rape is one of the most severe crimes that violate the person's privacy and dignity, and even famous athletes are not safe from being judged for it. Ex-NFL player Winslow Jr. committed this offence multiple times, and he finally got charged for his wrongdoings.

Who is Kellen Winslow Jr?

Kellen Winslow Jr is a former professional footballer who played in the National Football League. He performed as a tight end. After spending his college career playing for Miami Hurricanes, the talented youngster was drafted by Cleveland Browns.

He also played for such teams as Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. His father is the Hall of Fame football player Kellen Winslow Sr. He is 36 years old and has a wife and two children.

Unfortunately, Winslow's actions in his personal life were not always morally right. In the past couple of years, it came to light that he committed a few sex offence crimes.

Before his rape allegations, Kellen was charged with the possession of forbidden substances in 2014. He did not suffer severe consequences, only receiving a conditional discharge. Additionally, he was charged with burglary in 2018 after escaping from a mobile home park in California.

On June 14, 2018, Winslow was arrested for kidnapping and rape allegations. Two women came forward with similar assault stories. There were charges for kidnapping, forced oral sexual activity, and sodomy.

Apart from these crimes, Kellen was also charged with assaulting a 17-year-old girl back in 2003, who he crossed paths with at the house party in San Diego when he was 19. The victim was unconscious when the footballer raped her. There was another case about the sexual assault of a 54-year-old hitchhiker, who also accused the footballer of defiling her in his car.

In June 2019, Kellen Winslow Jr was found guilty of assaulting a 58-year-old homeless woman, who he met in Encinitas. He was also accused of lewd conduct and indecent exposure. However, the cases of the 17-year-old student and the 54-year-old hitchhiker were under question for a while, as the jury had a hard time making a solid decision on them.

Eventually, after a plea deal from the footballer's side, the hitchhiker's case was reduced from rape to sexual battery, and the court agreed to only sentence him based on two charges without taking others into account.

After all the victims came forward with their stories, the prosecutor Dan Owens praised them for their courage and confidence as they testified against the famous football player in front of the cameras.

Will Kellen Winslow Jr. go to jail?

On November 4, 2019, the former football star pleaded guilty to all of the accusations. He admitted assaulting a girl in 2003, as well as the hitchhiker's sexual battery. The footballer decided to plead guilty in order to avoid a life sentence, as he would have to go to jail for life if he was convicted of all his charges in the retrial.

It looks like he will get a sentence of 12 to 18 years in prison. Winslow's sentencing is scheduled for February 19, 2020.
