The just concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was everything but dull. The intensity was palpable, the drama and the noise level was top notch.
The tournament wasn't short of breathtaking moments as we watched the 2014 champions Germany get dumped out of the competition early. We also saw some stars surprise us. Here are some stars that shone in Russia.
1. Sweden defender Andreas Granqvist
The Swedish Captain, Andreas Granqvist shone in his country's narrow 1-0 win over South Korea on June 18.
The center-back plays his club football for Russian Premier League side FC Krasnodar and, as he needed no time to acclimatize to the country, he was able to hit the ground running with a number of stunning displays.
Granqvist kept possession well, made 8 defensive contributions, and even scored the match's only goal — a spot-kick awarded by the Video Assistant Referee.
In four 2018 World Cup matches, Granqvist helped Sweden keep 3 clean sheets — but couldn't add a fourth when his side lost to England 2-0 on July 7.
