For years and in many cultures the place for the women has always been in the kitchen. The funny thing is that the restaurant industry has been dominated by men for many years. Awards for top chefs have always been claimed by men and women are hardly recognized. The Culinary Institute of America which is the country’s top culinary school was founded in 1946 by two women but only veterans from World War II were allowed to enroll and that did not include women.
To-date women are still underrepresented in the culinary realm, but despite that, there are women who have still beaten the odds and become the very best in this industry. These top female chefs from cities across America have carved a name for themselves in the culinary industry. These top exceptional women chef are as follows.-
1. Chef Dominique Crenn
This chef utilizes unique presentations and luxurious ingredients (caviar, foie gras, truffles, etc.) in her creative cuisine at Atelier Crenn restaurant in San Francisco. Even the menu is amazingly unique-- it is written in the form of a poem, with each line evoking one of her adventurous dishes, a very creative presentation. Her other restaurant, Petit Crenn, is an "homage to her mother and grandmother's cooking," and features cuisine reminiscent of her native Brittany.
