Max Martin has been brought into the spotlight over the past few years. For a period of time, Martin was a mysterious force behind the world's greatest pop music hits. Max, whose real name is Karl Martin Sandberg, has been producing and writing songs since the '90s, but music fans have only recently started recognizing his name as a regular part of the pop zeitgeist.
Some of his biggest songs almost wound up in the hands of other stars. Here are 12 of the biggest pop songs written/co-written by Max Martin.
1. “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weekend – 2015
Not just was this hit nominated for two Grammy Awards, namely Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year, it also hit number one on the Canadian and US Top 100, as well as the local charts for Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa. Although no official confirmation has been given, it is generally suspected that this song is about cocaine. It has nevertheless been well received, with even famous celebrities such as Tom Cruise using the track as the basis for his recent Lip Sync battle.
2. “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar – 2015
This song co-written by Max Martin and performed by Taylor Swift is suspected to be about a particular female artist, thought to be Katy Perry by Billboard, Time, Rolling Stone, and The Washington Post. The original release of this song was criticized as being rather cliched, but, the remixed version featuring Kendrick Lamar was well received worldwide.
