2. Getting There
Outside Lands takes place in SF’s famous Golden Gate Park, an urban park carved out of sand and shore dunes known in the 1800s as 'the Outside Lands'. (It all makes sense now!) And while the park is only over 1,000 acres, the festival uses just 80 of them on the west end. (Fun fact: Golden Gate Park was inspired by Central Park, but is 20% larger.)
- Drive with your crew (or shuttle it up)
A 3-day shuttle pass will cost you $48 and runs from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to the south entrance. On the other hand, a 3-day parking pass is $255. This might be worth it if you are carpooling and reside far away. Plus, it will guarantee you won’t get a ticket. (Last year over 350 parking tickets were given out on just Friday and Saturday alone. Ouch.)
- Put on your walking shoes
The good thing is that Golden Gate Park is relatively flat as opposed to the rest of the city. But it is still a pretty decent hike from a lot of neighborhoods. If you are coming from the Richmond District (north), enter at 25th and Fulton. From the Sunset (south), enter at 25th and Lincoln. Just follow the crowds until you find the party.
