It’s not everyday that women are acknowledged for the impact they bring on the society. Sometimes our pride blinds us from seeing these superwomen gracing our screens or the red carpets. Wait, what is your definition of a superwoman? Wonder woman? No, that’s superstitious. My definitionof a superwoman is simply a woman who has beaten all odds to succeed. Some of the Swedish women have carried trophies home, medals and other accolades. Some of these women include:
1. Alicia Vikander
Have you ever heard of the story before the glory? Forget the fairy tales of Snow White or the Beauty and the Beast… Here is a story of a lady, Alicia, who was rejected from acting school five times! I repeat, five times! Butshe never gave up, journeyed all the way to stardom (I wonder how the acting school feels when they see her face pop up in TV). She is actually one of the busiest film stars spending six days a week, seven hours each day, training. She draws her inspiration back from her colored youth, in her early ballet education.
It has since then become the strongest foundation for her work. She rose to fame in movies such as Anna Karenina, Testament of Youth and Ex Machina, having appeared in several other movies before. In 2016,Alicia Vikander won herself her first Academy Award for Supporting Actress in ‘The Danish Girl’. She is the first Swedish actress to win an Academy Award since Ingrid Bergman in 1974.
