Police Officer Shot Dead in Elgeyo Marakwet County

A Police Officer Shot Dead in Elgeyo Marakwet County around 4am on Saturday, 10th Febuary, 2024. The Kenya police said this incident ocurred as a result of raid at Chepkum Chief’s camp.

The officer shot dead is Sergeant Anthony Mwangi. He was shot on the head just as he stepped outside to urinate around 4am.

He was not the only one at the camp, two other officers were there as well but fortunately escaped without any hurt.

The police has made it known that the suspected gang did this to take revenge on the police due to the killing of their bandit member who was later identified to be Oliver Kimutai a.k.a Mutee.

Prior to this, more security officers were sent to the scene to help remedy the situation and pursue the gang as well.

This banditry attack within the past months has claimed the lifes of twenty (20) residents.

Kithure Kindike the interior Cabinet Secretary leds the multi security teams and promise to end the unfortunate situation.

He said “that it has quite negative effects. It causes poverty in the rangelands and robs pastoral communities of their primary source of income, inciting retaliatory attacks and communal complaints.”
