On Friday, 19th April, 2024 the Governor of Nairobi County Johnson Sakaja made a publics declaration of joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Nairobi for chairmanship.
He made this known categorically clear to members of Nairobi County Assembly unified with UDA party that he is already in the race to becoming the chaimain of the party in the county.
In his words “I want you to get this from the horse’s mouth; I’m vying for Nairbi Chairmanship position in United Democratic Alliance party.”
Sakaja made this announcement in a meeting with Members of County Assembly (MCAs) with respect to the grassroots elections taking place next week.
It is expected that the party national election board chairmain, Anothony Mwaura will give a media brief on the ongoing election sensitiation programme.
The election will be conducted online in a free and fair manner as this is new milestone in Kenya’s democracy according UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala.
The initial stage of the UDA elections will be on Friday, 26th April, 2024 and will be conducted in about seven (7) counties; Narok, West-Pokot, Busia, Homabay, Isiolo, Garrisa and Nairobi.
After that, the next stage of the grassroot election will be conducted on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 in thirty (13) more counties; Tana River, Kwale, Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisii, Machakos, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua, Uasin Gishu and Mombasa.
The last two phases will hold on August 10th and 24th in the remaining twenty seven (27) counties respectively including Bomet, Nyeri and Kisumu.
